The MU College of Engineering’s reputation and legacy is built
upon the world–class practical and theoretical education it provides.
Mizzou engineering students receive the tools they need to play a vital
role in today’s increasingly technological society, improving our quality of life
while increasing our society’s prosperity. A growing number of these students are
choosing to join our faculty members as they fulfill MU’s land–grant mission by
pursuing groundbreaking research. However, the College of Engineering (CoE)
needs private support to continue building on its tradition of excellence.
St. Patrick Society members render that much–needed support. Through
their generous philanthropy, St. Patrick Society members help provide the crucial
resources that enable the college to continue educating Missouri’s brightest youths
while making life–changing discoveries that will carry us into a promising future.
The St. Patrick Society—named for the Irish saint that MU engineering students dubbed their patron in 1903—recognizes the alumni and friends who work with the college to
strengthen its mission.
Membership in the St. Patrick Society is open to alumni of the University
of Missouri–Columbia, friends and MU–affiliated, not–for–profit organizations.
Joint membership is available to alumni and friends and their spouses.
Membership eligibility is established through gifts or pledges to any MU
College of Engineering department or program of the donor’s choice.
Designated gifts are welcomed for any fund or purpose the donor desires,
provided such use is for a legitimate college purpose. Donors who contribute
gifts of at least $1,000 in a calendar year receive annual membership in the society,
while donors who contribute $25,000 or more become lifetime “sustaining” members.
Donors may place their gifts in a special endowment fund that they name
and designate as they wish, within college guidelines. Earnings from such funds
support the purpose of the endowment. The minimum amount necessary to
establish an endowment is $10,000, payable over no more than five years.
Donors also may designate their gifts as unrestricted, which allows the college
to finance scholarships, fellowships, research and faculty enhancement needs that
state funds do not meet.

Six levels of
sustaining membership are available to donors who provide
either testamentary gifts or
outright gifts or pledges. |
There are six levels of sustaining membership in the St. Patrick Society
available to donors who contribute or pledge one of the amounts listed below
over no more than 10 years. All prior gifts and company matching gifts to
the college count toward sustaining membership, and irrevocable trusts are
considered outright gifts.
Testamentary gifts signify a donor’s intention to make a gift to the college by
bequest, life insurance or other form of deferred gift.
Annual members of the St. Patrick Society contribute at least $1,000 during a
calendar year. Memberships are renewable on Jan. 1st and all annual
membership gifts count toward sustaining membership requirements.
