Graduation Requirements
Convocation Guest Tickets
Tickets are required for anyone who
attends Engineering Convocation (except the graduating seniors). There
are a limited number of seats and graduating seniors are notified of
the number of tickets available to each of them. Questions regarding
convocation should contact the Dean's Office.
CAAP Exam
The CAAP tests for general knowledge. It is a graduation requirement for all Mizzou students and is generally administered in the capstone course.
Course Substitution
Substitution of one course for a required course must be approved by the student's advisor and department faculty. A primary consideration for approval is fulfillment of ABET requirements. Contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies for your department for more information.
Curriculum of Record
The Curriculum of Record is the curriculum that must be satisfied by a student to graduate.
Students must complete the graduation requirements in effect for the term that they matriculate to the University.
This policy applies to newly admitted freshmen as well as transfer students.
Students must meet the specified divisional, departmental and major requirements for their degree(s) that were in effect when they were admitted as degree seeking to the program track.
If there is a lapse in enrollment, the student must meet the degree requirements in effect when the student returns to the University. Requests for exceptions to the above policy may be appealed to the academic dean for the college or school in which the student is enrolled.
In the event of curriculum or policy change with respect to requirements students have two options:
- To complete the graduation requirements in effect for the term that they matriculate/return to the University
- With department approval, to complete the graduations requirements in effect subsequent to the revision.
Humanities and Social Sciences
All engineering students must take 9 credit hours in each of these two areas: a) Behavioral and Social Science, and b) Humanistic Studies and Fine Arts. One course of the 18 hours must be numbered 200 or higher. There must be at least 2 departments represented in each of the 9 hour blocks.
All foreign language courses, provided that at least 12 transcripted college-credit hours are completed in any one language, will satisfy the Humanities/Fine Arts requirement in the General Education Architecture Distribution Requirement. The upper division distribution requirement is also satisfied by this language sequence.
Diploma
Diplomas are mailed to the student after verification of completion of all requirements for graduation. For more information, visit the Commencement website.
FE Exam
The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is the first step to becoming a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). A student who passes the exam becomes an Engineer In Training (EIT). Students are strongly encourage to take the exam when they are within 12 months of graduation. The exam is given in April and October of each year, and registration is due the prior December or May, respectively. See the undergraduate secretary of your department or the Dean's Office for more information.
Graduation Form
A graduation form must be submitted at the beginning of a student's final semester. The form is used to gather information to be used in the graduation program regarding activities and honors achieved by the student. The student also provides an address to which his or her diploma is to be sent.
Post Graduate Plans Survey ( Engineering Career Services)
Prior to graduation, a online form is submitted to Engineering Career Services. The Dean's Office uses this data to track placement rates and employment information.
Math Minor
Those who complete two math courses beyond the Calculus/Differential Equations requirement may be eligible for Math Minor designation on their transcripts. The process starts with the completion of the College of Arts and Science Minor in Mathematics form available through the Math Department. The form sequentially receives approval by the academic advisor, a representative of the Math Department, the Dean of Engineering (or his designee) and the Dean of A & S (or his designee). At least 13 credit hours of math courses must be taken at MU and grades of "C" or better must be earned.
Residency
In order to receive a degree from MU, a student must take 30 of his or her last 36 hours on the MU campus. Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Dean of Engineering.
